Support for Pupils with Complex Learning Needs

Additional Provision

We are in our ninth year of providing increased support for pupils with Complex Learning Needs

Titus Salt School was selected as the first secondary school in Bradford to provide designated specialist provision (DSP) to enable the successful inclusion of an increased range of pupils with complex learning difficulties in a mainstream secondary school.

A specialist teacher of SEN along with 2 Higher Level Teaching Assistants and team of specialised Learning Support Assistants oversee the teaching, support and integration of our DSP pupils.

Our aims

  • Focus on individual needs to maximise progress
  • Provide a nurturing and  supportive environment
  • Include students in mainstream lessons wherever possible
  • Develop the pupils’ confidence and independence
  • Maintain regular contact to ensure we work in partnership with parents

We provide

  • A personalised timetable
  • Differentiated work in mainstream lessons
  • Additional support
  • Individual & small group teaching
  • Links to outside specialists
  • Opportunities for pupils to work alongside their peers
  • Encouragement for pupils to take part in wider school activities
  • Additional trained teaching and support staff
  • Transition work with feeder schools

An Inclusive School

Titus Salt School is proud of its ethos of inclusion. All of our DSP pupils spend at least 50% of their time in mainstream lessons and are encouraged to take place in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including Dance, Archery and cooking club as well as taking part in the school show.

This helps build their confidence and enables them to take a full part in school life.

Main Admissions Criteria for DSP (Complex Learning Needs)

All pupils’ allocated places will have a statement of SEN/EHCP (or be undergoing statutory assessment). They will be those pupils who will benefit not only from education in a mainstream setting but also from the additional provision of the DSP. Placements will be sought through and formally approved by Bradford MDC in consultation with the school.

You are welcome to arrange a visit to our school or seek further information.
