Ms Sharon Kennedy has joined Titus Salt School as our Higher Education Officer. She is funded as part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP), which aims to support young people in England to progress into higher education (HE).

The programme consists of 29 consortia undertaking outreach activity in geographical areas where the HE participation of young people is both low overall and much lower than expected based on GCSE-level attainment. Our local consortium is Go Higher West Yorkshire.

The programme aims to support the Government’s goals to:

  • double the proportion of young people from under-represented geographical areas in higher education (HE) by 2020
  • increase by 20 per cent the number of students in HE from ethnic minority groups
  • address the under-representation of young men from disadvantaged backgrounds in HE.

Over the course of the programme, Ms Kennedy will be offering opportunities to visit universities and colleges and arranging for guest speakers, workshops, HE carousels and careers panels to take place in school. She will also be available to support pupils and their parents/carers with everything from course choices to pupil finance.
